Recently, we've seen Solange as the mastermind behind her Saint Heron website and Saint Records label, but we haven’t heard much much from the singer herself—although, her monochromatic ensembles have been around to remind us she isn't going anywhere. But as good as all of those moments are, we were curious and intrigued to hear her latest release, A Seat At The Table, when she dropped it at midnight.

With features from cult-icons like Sampha and Kelela, and notable favorites like Dev Hynes and Master P, Solange gathered the best of the best to take a seat at her table. With strong, politically-charged lyrics like “For us, this shit is for us, don’t try to come for us,” from “F.U.B.U.," which features New Orleans-inspired horns and an unexpected, rather dark melody, we see lyrical and musical layers of Solange we’ve never seen before.

She follows up with cinematic moments on "Cranes in the Sky" and lyrically-driven gold on "Don't Touch My Hair," which convinces us that Solange has officially arrived. She finds herself in light, airy vocals layered upon deeply percussive tracks—all wrapped up in her signature lust-worthy imagery. We've got to give it up to Solange—and thank her for making our ride into the weekend that much sweeter.
