We're pretty well-versed in candid and unscripted podcasts. What we've been missing are the "OMG" and "Awww" moments that come with fictional stories. Podcast fiction is the 21st century intersection between novels and TV. It has the opportunity for cliff-hangers that we see in our favorite shows, but because there is no visual representation, it forces us to use our imagination to create faces for the character's we're listening to.

Even though there are tons of new great fictional podcasts popping up every week, these are the ones that we're loving:

Homecoming

It's a political psychological thriller about a therapist and his army vet patient who get entangled in a possibly-corrupt government program. If you loved 24 and Homeland, you'll definitely love Homecoming. And the juicy plot comes with an even juicier cast—Oscar Isaac and Catherine Keener star, and David Schwimmer, David Cross, and Amy Sedaris have supporting roles.

As if she isn't successful enough, Insecure creator and YouTube star Issa Rae also wrote a podcast. It tells the story of an athlete fighting ideas of masculinity and discovering his sexuality. The podcast is already in its second season, meaning there are plenty of episodes available to download right now.

Archive 81

Archive 81 is what many are calling "soft horror." The narrator's friend, Daniel, disappears, but leaves behind eerie audio files from his time working as an archivist. Are these files connected to Daniel's vanishing, and if so, how are they connected? Yeah, we know. You're already hooked. This is another podcast already in its second season.
